In what can only be described as a brilliant turn last night on Larry King Live, young celebrity Mom Jenny McCarthy stood her ground with a defiant "anecdotal evidence IS scientific evidence" in calling on the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to back away from one- size-fits-all vaccine policies that recommend all babies get dozens of doses of vaccines. Describing what happened to her son, who suffered convulsions and nearly died after a round of vaccinations and then regressed into autism, Jenny was accompanied by her pediatrician, Jay Gordon, M.D., and journalist David Kirby in a face-off with AAP pediatricians Harvey Karp, M.D. and David Tayloe, Jr. M.D.. It was a ground- breaking television debate about vaccine risks that highlighted the soft underbelly of a medical community unwilling to deal with the reality that regressive autism is part of the vaccine injury spectrum.
Watching Jenny talk about how she recovered her son from autism using diet and alternative healing therapies while resolutely rejecting the tired old platitudes offered up by the two pediatricians trying to defend the indefensible vaccine schedule promoted by the AAP, I smiled as I remembered how it was when I was a young Mom in the 1980's and 1990's and debated doctors on TV. Those were the days when the vast majority of Americans had no idea vaccines could brain injure children and the U.S. media was often bullied by AAP and CDC officials into downplaying reports by mothers that their children died or were brain damaged after vaccination.
The AAP and CDC leadership have essentially joined with the pharmaceutical industry and stuck their heads in the sand for three decades, refusing to take action even though parents and a few courageous doctors have repeatedly come to the table at the CDC, FDA, NIH and Institute of Medicine and pleaded with them to responsibly investigate the clear pattern of regression into poor health after vaccination that so many children are suffering. Pediatricians and vaccine manufacturers have hidden behind the protection offered by the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986, which Congress gave to them as a gift in an exchange that was supposed to make the vaccine system safer and more trustworthy.
The sad truth is that the public trust has been betrayed by those operating a mass vaccination system now crumbling precisely because there was a refusal to listen to the calls by mothers of vaccine injured children to take constructive action in the 1980's and 1990's.
Today, those responsible for the betrayal of the public trust will be forced to deal with a new generation of Moms, exemplified by Jenny McCarthy, who are not starting from ground zero like we did. These Moms are holding their broken children in their arms and looking back in anger and disgust at the long, tragic history of denials by those operating the mass vaccination system. This generation of mothers and fathers, many of whom will spend a lifetime trying to heal their vaccine injured children, are standing on a platform of knowledge built brick by brick by those who have gone before and shouting: "It ends here and now with me."
During the Larry King show, Jenny announced that she and Jim Carrey will be leading a march for autism awareness in Washington, D.C. on June 4.

U.S. Doctors Club ABC-TV Show on Autism & Vaccines

I sighed with recognition when I learned that the leadership of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) had written a letter and issued a press release on Jan. 25 calling on ABC-TV to cancel tomorrow's premiere episode of a fictional drama about a family whose child regresses into autism after vaccination. On the same day, the American Medical Association (AMA) called on ABC to "mitigate the harm this episode may do" such as re-writing the script.
The CDC-funded Immunization Action Coalition (IAC) also piled on ABC-TV, urging doctors to put pressure on the network to cancel the broadcast while seven former directors of the CDC maintained in a Jan. 29 March of Dimes press release that "The implication that vaccinations cause autism is irresponsible and counter productive."
This latest coordinated attempt by physician leaders of America's medical establishment to muzzle the media's exploration of vaccine risk issues that have been making headlines for nearly three decades is reminiscent of the coordinated denials of vaccine risks by these same physician leaders in April 1982 when NBC-TV broadcast the documentary "DPT: Vaccine Roulette." It was a landmark documentary which earned television journalist Lea Thompson an Emmy and initiated a public dialogue that would change the course of medical history.
In 1982, when the NBC-TV documentary exposed the dangers of DPT vaccine, physician leaders in the AAP, AMA, CDC and other medical organizations joined together to discredit Thompson and everyone associated with the broadcast. An article in the July 1982 Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) labeled the NBC-TV documentary "biased, histrionic and inaccurate" and even "amoral and psychopathic."
William Foege, M.D., then director of the CDC and one of the seven former CDC directors who endorsed the March of Dimes press release now criticizing ABC-TV for airing a fictional episode about vaccines and autism, in 1982 declared that the NBC- TV report about DPT vaccine risks was "an unbalanced view - bias, in my view, and inaccuracies to carry its destructive message.....not an example of responsible journalism."
In 1983, a year after the documentary aired, reporter Thompson explained "The AAP put out the word the day we did our story that the story was inaccurate and not to worry. When a reporter calls a local doctor or hospital or medical center, he speaks to doctors who have been told by the AAP and AMA not to worry. To my knowledge, pediatricians in this country have heard absolutely nothing from the AAP on DPT since then." (quoted in DPT: A Shot in the Dark)
Three years later, the U.S. Congress would acknowledge the reality of DPT and other vaccine brain injury and death by passing the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986. This societal acknowledgement was followed by the publishing, in 1991 and 1994, of four reports by the Institute of Medicine that DPT vaccine can cause brain inflammation and permanent brain damage and that other childhood vaccines can cause varying degrees of brain and immune system dysfunction, as well as death. In 1996, after parents of vaccine injured children had lobbied industry and government for 14 years, the FDA licensed a purified DTaP vaccine for babies.
To the credit of the owners and management of ABC-TV, the network has so far refused to cancel the premiere episode of Eli Stone that features a family struggling with issues familiar to parents whose children regress into autism after vaccination. Since 1982, Americans have depended on members of the Fourth Estate to illuminate for the public the scientific, medical, economic, political, social and ethical issues involved in the vaccine safety and informed consent debate. Hopefully, ABC-TV and all print and broadcast media outlets will hold the line against this latest threat to freedom of thought and expression by a medical community determined to silence people crying out for recognition and help for their vaccine injured children.
Parents deserve more from the pediatricians and doctors, who they entrust with their children's lives, than denials, hostility and disrespect. They deserve to have their questions about vaccination answered honestly; their concerns about vaccine risks taken seriously; and their children treated with the same compassion that doctors would treat their own children. They expect that, when their children regress after vaccination into poor health, pediatricians will leave no stone unturned, including exploring the possibility that vaccine(s) played a role in their child's development of autism, learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes, arthritis, intestinal bowel disorders and many other kinds of brain and immune system dysfunction.
Mothers and fathers expect that - whether or not mercury preservatives in vaccines have or have not been "proven" to be the cause of the autism epidemic - that pediatricians and all doctors would instinctively adhere to the "First do no harm" precautionary principle and support the immediate removal of a known neurotoxin from vaccines they inject into babies. Parents do not expect doctors to collectively stick their heads in the sand and turn away from their responsibility to find out why the biggest epidemic of chronic disease and disability among children in the history of our nation is associated with the more than doubling of the numbers of vaccines doctors give to them in the first few years of life.
In 1983, when pediatrician leaders of the AAP Redbook Committee met with co-founders of the National Vaccine Information Center to discuss DPT vaccine brain injuries, I begged them to take seriously the reports by parents that their children were regressing physically, mentally and emotionally after vaccination so that steps could be taken to minimize the risks. I warned them that "a system that will not bend will break."
In 2008, after 26 years of waiting for pediatricians to open their eyes and realize that leaders in the AAP, AMA, and CDC have betrayed their trust by denying the truth about vaccine risks, parents are taking matters into their own hands. If the mass vaccination system breaks, the blame can be put squarely at the feet of doctors who have waited too long to stand up and say "The lie stops here and now with me."

America's pediatricians, who cannot explain to American parents why so many of their young, highly vaccinated children are developing autism and other developmental disabilities, announced this week at a conference in San Francisco that it is time for doctors to get serious about diagnosing autism early and often.

This push for "early diagnosis" before age two is coupled with a push for "early intervention." Currently that intervention involves doctors prescribing psychiatric drugs for 80 percent of the children diagnosed with autism or Asperger disorder according to a report released at the same conference.

Although few parents would argue that it is important to recognize when a child is regressing physically, mentally and emotionally into autism, many parents are more interested in addressing the biological root causes for the kinds of brain and immune system dysfunction that their autistic children are exhibiting, rather than giving their children psychotropic drugs that only suppress the symptoms. Many parents, like Cindy Goldenberg in the early 1990's and Jenny McCarthy a decade later, have found that eliminating gluten and casein from their child's diet and employing other alternative therapies to repair healthy immune function, can effectively address vaccine-related biological causes for autism and greatly improve their children's health.
However, currently mainstream American pediatricians are overwhelmingly attempting to deal with the autism explosion by drugging children. Tobias Gerhard, PhD, assistant professor at the Rutgers University Institute for Health, Health Care Policy, and Aging Research acknowledged that the prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorders increased 10-fold in the last decade and presented an analysis of medical care surveys reflecting two million health visits involving autism or Asperger disorder. He found that children were overwhelmingly male and white and that disruptive behavioral disorders were involved with 3 of every 10 cases.
The surveys revealed that about 80% of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder are treated with at least one psychiatic drug; 30% are given antipsychotic drugs, 40% antidepressants, 40% stimulants and about 30% some other drug, including mood stabilizers and anticonvulsants. Some children are prescribed several medications. "As with many psychiatric conditions in children, we really know very little [about] how these drugs actually work and how they should be used in practice," Dr. Gerhard said.
In Canada, where there is a nationalized health care system and long waiting lines for a doctor's appointment, there is a warning by Canadian pediatricians that early screening and treatment for autism is easier said than done. The former president of the Canadian Pediatric Society, Emmet Francoeur, points out that increased screening would involve an increase in the number of evaluation teams and treatment services, all of which is time consuming and expensive. He says "Unfortunately, unlike a broken bone or pneumonia, where you can take an x-ray and come up with a diagnosis, it takes multiple observers looking at multiple aspects of a child's development to diagnose autism."

As hard as it is for pediatricians to figure out how they are going to identify and treat lots of highly vaccinated autistic children, it is much harder for parents searching for answers for why their once healthy children developed autism and how to help them heal. The diagnostic screening tests, the visits to different doctors specializing in different parts of the body and the drug and behavioral therapies that may or may not work, can bankrupt the average middle class family.
One day, the educational and health care costs associated with the biggest epidemic our nation has ever experienced - the chronic disease and disability epidemic - may bankrupt our nation. It is a chronic illness epidemic that makes the polio epidemic of the 1950's look small by comparison. We are all paying a very high price for the failure of pediatricians, drug companies and government health officials to act responsibly in the 1980's when parents of DPT vaccine injured children pleaded with them to conduct methodologically sound scientific studies to investigate the biological mechanisms and genetic factors involved in vaccine-induced regression and neuroimmune dysfunction.

Doctors of Scientism: "No Cure for Autism"
There's no cure for autism, and many parents are willing to believe anything if they come to think it could help their child." Mulick chaired a symposium on "Outrageous Developmental Disabilities Treatments" Aug. 20 in San Francisco at the annual meeting of the American Psychological Association. The symposium included presentations by several of Mulick's students at Ohio State who participated in a graduate seminar on fad treatments in autism.....Some of the newer, more popular fad treatments for autism involve special diets or nutritional supplements. Megadoses of Vitamins C and B6 are popular, as well as supplements with fatty acids like omega-3s. A casein and/or gluten-free diet, which involves eliminating dairy and wheat products, has also gained favor with some parents. While many of these treatments have never been adequately studied, that doesn't mean they aren't promoted....Autism, like many conditions, has cycles in which symptoms get worse and then get better. Parents tend to search for treatments when symptoms are getting worse, and when their children get better - as they do in the normal course of disease - parents credit the new therapy. "An Associated Press review of records in Minnesota found that a doctor and a pharmacist on the eight-member state panel simultaneously got big checks - more than $350,000 to one - from pharmaceutical companies for speaking about their products. The two members said the money did not influence their work on the panel, and the lack of recorded votes in meeting minutes makes it difficult to track any link between the payments and policy. But ethical experts said the Minnesota data raise questions about the possibility of similar financial ties between the pharmaceutical industry and advisers in other states."In the absence of disclosure laws, there's certainly no way to know," said Jack Hoadley, a research professor specializing in Medicaid at Georgetown University in Washington. "Direct-to-parent marketing of ADHD drugs - - most of which are stimulants -- has grown pervasive over the last few years, despite a United Nations treaty banning most of it. Use of such medications increased by more than 60% from 2001 to 2005, according to the International Narcotics Control Board. This month's homemaker-targeted magazines, such as Family Circle, Woman's Day and Redbook, feature advertising spreads for Vyvanse, Shire US Inc.'s new entry in the growing stable of ADHD medications...... Understanding all potential causes of the growing chronic disease and disability epidemic among children, which includes millions of children suffering from regressive autism and other developmental delays, deserves to be made a high priority in biomedical research.
Although it is becoming clearer that bolus and cumulative mercury exposures via mercury preservatives in vaccines are not the sole cause for increases in cases of autism during the past quarter century, the hypothesis that mercury preservatives in vaccines have harmed the brains and immune systems of many children should not be dismissed. Mercury is a neuro-toxin and does not belong in any form in any product consumed by humans, much less directly injected into humans. "In 1971,California included autism as a qualifying condition to it's developmental services system. During the 16 year period from 1971 through 1987, California had a total caseload of roughly 2700 persons with autism. Twenty years ago in 1987 there were 2700 persons with autism in the California system. Today, there are nearly 34,000 and 92% of the children were born after 1980, with 84% under the age of 21 and 78% under the age of 18. "We are still waiting for the missing 14,000+ adults with autism that should be in our system if there has not been a real increase in autism to show up now that we know what autism looks like," added Rick. Another report from Rick Rollens in California confirming what parents of children under five already know: America's autism epidemic is not slowing down because America's children are being overvaccinated. The autism epidemic is not just about mercury or aluminum or formaldehyde or phenoxyethanol or gluteraldehyde or sodium borate or any other single component of vaccines. Vaccine induced brain inflammation and chronic neuroimmune dysfunction is a complex, multi-factoral interaction between genetic and other host biological high risk factors and one or more live virus and killed bacterial vaccines given simultaneously and repeatedly in the critical first few hours, days, weeks and months of life.
All of the biological mechanisms and high risk factors have yet to be identified. But we know that during the past 25 years, as the numbers of doses of vaccines public health officials insist on giving children have more than doubled, we have fundamentally changed the way that humans experience their environment in the critical developmental period when the brain and immune system develop most rapidly.
Doctors in leadership positions in the CDC and AAP had better get their collective heads out of the sand and take a good look at the chronic disease and disability epidemic that is thriving because of their utilitarian approach to mass vaccination policies. California Reports Another Record Autism Increase
Rick Rollens, co-founder of the M.I.N.D. Institute at UC- Davis, reports that California is continuing to experience record numbers of cases of children being diagnosed with the most serious form of autism.
According to information released last week by California's Department of Developmental Services (DDS), during the 91 day period that was the first quarter of 2007 (Q 1), 886 new children with a professional diagnosis of full syndrome DSM IV autism, which does NOT include PDD, NOS, Asperger's Syndrome or any other autism spectrum disorder, were added to California's developmental services system.
There were a total of 1570 total new intakes during the first quarter of 2007, which included children with autism, cerebral palsy, mental retardation, epilepsy, and a myriad of rare genetic conditions such as Fragile X, and Down's Syndrome. Of the 1570 total new intakes, 886 or 56% were full syndrome autism cases.
The 886 new intakes during that 91 day period represents the second highest number of new intakes for a quarter reporting period in the 38 year history of California's developmental services system. On average, California is currently adding 10 new children a day, seven days a week with full syndrome autism to it's system.

Another report from Rick Rollens in California confirming what parents of children under five already know: America's autism epidemic is not slowing down because America's children are being overvaccinated. The autism epidemic is not just about mercury or aluminum or formaldehyde or phenoxyethanol or gluteraldehyde or sodium borate or any other single component of vaccines. Vaccine induced brain inflammation and chronic neuroimmune dysfunction is a complex, multi-factoral interaction between genetic and other host biological high risk factors and one or more live virus and killed bacterial vaccines given simultaneously and repeatedly in the critical first few hours, days, weeks and months of life.
All of the biological mechanisms and high risk factors have yet to be identified. But we know that during the past 25 years, as the numbers of doses of vaccines public health officials insist on giving children have more than doubled, we have fundamentally changed the way that humans experience their environment in the critical developmental period when the brain and immune system develop most rapidly.
Doctors in leadership positions in the CDC and AAP had better get their collective heads out of the sand and take a good look at the chronic disease and disability epidemic that is thriving because of their utilitarian approach to mass vaccination policies. They had better get off the idea that there is a difference between individual and public health. There is no difference. Because when you believe it is morally acceptable to harm one in the community, you eventually end up justifying harm to many in the community.

California Reports Another Record Autism Increase
Rick Rollens, co-founder of the M.I.N.D. Institute at UC- Davis, reports that California is continuing to experience record numbers of cases of children being diagnosed with the most serious form of autism.
According to information released last week by California's Department of Developmental Services (DDS), during the 91 day period that was the first quarter of 2007 (Q 1), 886 new children with a professional diagnosis of full syndrome DSM IV autism, which does NOT include PDD, NOS, Asperger's Syndrome or any other autism spectrum disorder, were added to California's developmental services system.
There were a total of 1570 total new intakes during the first quarter of 2007, which included children with autism, cerebral palsy, mental retardation, epilepsy, and a myriad of rare genetic conditions such as Fragile X, and Down's Syndrome. Of the 1570 total new intakes, 886 or 56% were full syndrome autism cases.
The 886 new intakes during that 91 day period represents the second highest number of new intakes for a quarter reporting period in the 38 year history of California's developmental services system. On average, California is currently adding 10 new children a day, seven days a week with full syndrome autism to it's system.
In 1971,California included autism as a qualifying condition to it's developmental services system. During the 16 year period from 1971 through 1987, California had a total caseload of roughly 2700 persons with autism.
Rick said "During the past nine months alone, from July 2006 to April 2007, California added roughly 2700 new autism cases. What used to take 16 years in caseload growth now takes 9 months!"
Twenty years ago in 1987 there were 2700 persons with autism in the California system. Today, there are nearly 34,000 and 92% of the children were born after 1980, with 84% under the age of 21 and 78% under the age of 18.
"We are still waiting for the missing 14,000+ adults with autism that should be in our system if there has not been a real increase in autism to show up now that we know what autism looks like," added Rick. " Still no sign of them. The fact is, they do not exist. In California's system today. Institute at UC-Davis and longtime advocate for autism research, has been working with the California legislature since the late 1990's to analyze and report on autism incidence statistics in the state. The first report that California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) issued on autism increase statistics was in April 1999, when DDS reported a 273 percent increase between 1987 and 1998 in the numbers of new children with a professional diagnosis of autism. That groundbreaking report concluded that "the number of persons with autism grew markedly faster than the numbers of persons with other developmental disabilities and "compared to characteristics of 11 years ago, the present population of persons with autism are younger and have a greater chance of exhibiting no or milder forms of mental retardation."
Since that 1999 report, Rick has continued to report on autism diagnosis statistics coming out of the state of California. Yesterday, Rick released another update of how many children are being professionally diagnosed with full spectrum DSM IV autism and have been deemed eligible to receive DDS services. These numbers only represent those children with a full spectrum autism diagnosis and not those with Asperger's, developmental delays or other autism spectrum disorders.
The latest news from California is that during the calendar year of 2006, California added more new cases of autism to the DDS system than have ever been added to the system in any calendar year. The 3,385 full spectrum autism cases that were professionally diagnosed and added to the system in 2006 represent a 16 percent increase over calendar year 2005.
The autism epidemic in California is getting worse. It is an epidemic that is not just confined to California.The autism epidemic, which is part of the larger chronic disease and disability epidemic affecting so many of our children, perfectly coincides in the past two decades with the doubling of the number of doses of vaccines young children get in the first six years of life. In 1987, by age six children had received 23 doses of seven vaccines. Today, by age six children receive 48 doses of 14 vaccines at a time when their immune systems and brains are developing most rapidly.
Constant atypical manipulation of the immune system with lab-altered viral and bacterial vaccines containing many different additives may well be harming an expanding number of children, who are biologically vulnerable to vaccine-induced chronic inflammation and neuroimmune dysfunction. The tragedy of one-size-fits-all vaccine policies enforced by the law is that an unknown number of vulnerable children are being written off as expendable in the name of the "common good." How many of the growing numbers of autistic children are among the biologically vulnerable, who cannot handle the 48 doses of 14 vaccines the CDC and AAP tell doctors to give them?
Answering this question requires scientific investigation that goes far beyond the mercury hypothesis.

Bernard Rimland, Autism Pioneer 1928-2006
Bernard Rimland, Ph.D., a visionary autism research pioneer and the man most responsible for debunking the "refrigerator Mom" theory of autism, died Nov. 21, 2006 in San Diego at the age of 78. A California psychologist and father of a child diagnosed with autism at age two, Dr. Rimland wrote his landmark book "Infantile Autism: The Syndrome and Its Implications for a Neural Theory of Behavior" in 1964.
Rejecting the theories promoted by psychiatrist Leo Kanner and psychoanalyst Bruno Bettleheim, Dr. Rimland argued for a biological, specifically a neurological, basis for autistic behavior. He documented the similarities between brain injured children and autistic children, liberating parents from the destructive guilt associated with having an autistic child and pointing autism research in the direction it should always have taken: investigation into the biological mechanisms underlying brain and immune system dysfunction.
After founding the Autism Society of America (ASA) in 1965 and establishing the Autism Research Institute (ARI) in 1967, Dr. Rimland began distributing a questionnaire to parents of autistic children. Some 33 years later, he analyzed information he had collected in his databank pertaining to the age of onset of autism. He discovered that before the early 1980's, most of the parents reported their children first showed signs of abnormal behavior at birth or in the first year of life. But after the mid-1980's, there was a reversal of this pattern. By 2000, the numbers of parents reporting that their children developed normally in the first year and a half of life and then suddenly became autistic, doubled. Rimland commented "now the onset-at-18-month children outnumber the onset-at-birth children by 2 to 1."
In 2002, the National Vaccine Information Center awarded Dr. Rimland NVIC's Courage in Science Award. The award was presented to "Bernard Rimland, Ph.D. for demonstrating intellectual independence and personal courage in challenging medical science and its widely held view that the causes of autism are psychological and not biological. With the publishing of his ground-breaking 1964 book, Dr. Rimland shattered the view in psychiatry that autism in children is an emotional illness caused by cold and destructive mothering. His pioneering research established that the causes of autism are biological and not psychological.
"He helped to raise public awareness about autism when he worked on the academy award winning film, "Rain Man," whose lead character was modeled after his own autistic son. After having devoted more than 35 years to the study of autism, its biological causes and the development of healing therapies, Dr. Rimland today is once again challenging medical science as he publicly questions whether vaccination is one of the biological causes of autism in some children. For his dedication to truth in science and the public's right to know, Bernard Rimland is an outstanding example of what it means to have courage in science and is given NVIC's Courage in Science Award."
Bernie, as many of us called him, was a brilliant man with uncommon determination and a true love for the autistic children and their families, who he devoted his entire life to helping. Fearless and uncompromising in pursuit of the truth, his leadership and his great, good heart will be missed by all who knew him and by those who never knew him but whose lives are better because he was here.

"It is just as logical to argue that the chronic disease and disability epidemic that has developed during the past 25 years, in which autism takes a leading role, is more associated with an increase in the different types of live virus and inactivated bacterial vaccines given to all children, as well as the increases in total number of doses, than it is to one component of those many vaccines," said Barbara Loe Fisher, co- founder and president of the advocacy group National Vaccine Information Center.
"Human infants have never in the history of man experienced their environment in the way that they are now experiencing it, which includes having their first immunological experience at 12 hours of age with an atypical manipulation of the immune system when hepatitis B vaccine is injected," she explained.
"This is followed by continuing atypical introduction of lab altered live viruses and inactivated bacteria into the body during the first six years of life, including seven vaccines at 2 months, seven more at 4 months, eight more at 6 months ... (B)y age 6, a child will have received 48 doses of 14 vaccines," Fisher said.

CA Autism Increases With Rate Decline
"In the 1960's through the 1970's, autism accounted for roughly 3% of the total number of new cases entering the system. The bad news is that the data show a continuing increase in the numbers of young autistic children entering the system. The good news is that there appears to be a marked slowing of the percentage rate increases of new autism cases in younger children.
Elimination of mercury from most childhood vaccines between 1999 and 2003 may be having an effect on the slowing of the rate of autism increases in young children, a rate of increase which skyrocked out of sight beginning in the early 1980's. However, the fact that the total numbers of young children suffering with autism does continue to increase - even though it is at a slower rate -in Calfironia and other states suggests that mercury preservatives in vaccines may be only one causal factor in the rise in autism among American children during the past quarter century.
During the past quarter century, the CDC and AAP increased the numbers of vaccinations doctors are told to give American children from 23 doses of 7 vaccines to 48 doses of 14 vaccnies by age five. Although today almost all childhood vaccines contain only trace amounts of mercury or never contained mercury preservatives, such as polio, pneumococcal, hepatitis A and live virus MMR, chicken pox and rotavirus vaccines, parents around the nation continue to report that their children are regressing physically, mentally and emotionally following receipt of multiple vaccines. These parents report their children are becoming chronically ill and disabled, suffering with autism, learning disabilities, ADHD, asthma, diabetes, intestinal bowel disorders and other brain and immune system dysfunction.
How many more children will be hurt before government, industry and pediatricians open their eyes and see what too much vaccination has done to our children?
Rick Rollens, co-founder of the M.I.N.D. Institute at UC-Davis, released the following report on the latest numbers of children suffering with autism that are being served in the California DDS:
California Reports Autism Increase With Rate Increase Decline
According to data just released by the California Department of Developmental Services (DDS), during the 3rd. Quarter of 2006 (August through September), California added 841 new cases of autism to it's developmental services system, a number that represents the second highest quarterly reported number of new cases in the system's 37 year history.
In 1987 there were 2,778 cases in the system, by the end of 2002 the number had increased to 20,377, and today there are 31,853 persons with autism in the system.
Over 84% of all persons with autism in California's system are between the age of 3 and 21. Currently, 88% of the autism population live at home.
INCREASING RATE SLOWS DRAMATICALLY
In 1999, DDS released it's now famous and historic autism caseload report that documented a 273% increase in the number of new cases of autism entering California's developmental services system from 1987 through 1998.
In 2003, DDS followed up with an updated report that documented a 97% increase in the autism caseload over the 48 month period from December 1998 through December 2002.
According to DDS, during the most recent 45 month reporting period from January 2003 through September 2006, there has been a 50 percent increase in the autism caseload. The rate of increase declined by nearly half over the previous reporting period. The rate of increase has slowed by close to half from 95 percent to 50 percent during the past 45 months (nearly four years).
LESS YOUNGER, MORE OLDER CHILDREN ENTERING SYSTEM
During the four year reporting period between October 2002 and October 2006 there has been a large increase in the 10-21 year old population in the system, while the younger, 3-9 year old cohort reflects the substantial, declining rate of increase as noted above. The largest increase has been in the 14- 17 year olds (127%), while the smallest increase has been in the 22 year olds and older (35%).
Reasons for this phenomenon could include the lessening burden of mercury in vaccines slowing the numbers of new young children entering the system, a tightening of eligibility criteria that took effect in July 2003 (see last paragraph), and Regional Centers responding to the pressure to qualify more older persons with higher functioning autism spectrum conditions.
One thing is for sure, the hidden hordes of adults with autism that needs to be accounted for in order to discredit the existence of an autism epidemic and an increasing incidence of autism, have yet to come forward or be discovered.

In the 1960's through the 1970's, autism accounted for roughly 3% of the total number of new cases entering the system. Beginning in the late 1970's (1978-79) and early 1980's, the autism epidemic began, and the increase grew from 3% to 40% by July 2003. In July 2003 eligibility criteria was made more difficult for all categories of consumers, with subsequent devastating impacts on the numbers of persons with mental retardation, epilepsy, and cerebral palsy entering the system.
By October 2003, autism accounted for 47% of all new intakes, and according to the latest DDS Report for the 3rd. Quarter of 2006, autism now accounts for an astonishing 76% of the intakes now entering California's developmental services system. Due to the nature of the eligibility regulations adopted in July 2003, autism has been far and away the least impacted category of conditions affected.

The bad news is that the data show a continuing increase in the numbers of young autistic children entering the system. The good news is that there appears to be a marked slowing of the percentage rate increases of new autism cases in younger children.
Elimination of mercury from most childhood vaccines between 1999 and 2003 may be having an effect on the slowing of the rate of autism increases in young children, a rate of increase which skyrocked out of sight beginning in the early 1980's. However, the fact that the total numbers of young children suffering with autism does continue to increase - even though it is at a slower rate -in Calfironia and other states suggests that mercury preservatives in vaccines may be only one causal factor in the rise in autism among American children during the past quarter century.
